FAQ

What does EM3 consist of ?

In a steel foundry in Germany EM3 is manufactured in one piece.  It consists of high-quality stainless steel with a chromium-manganese alloy, and is powder-coated subsequently. In this way, its robustness is created which withstands an exerted force of over one ton.

What does “RC2” mean ?

In conformity with European standards, manual burglary protection is classified according to resistance classes; abbreviation: RC). The recommendation of the police and the insurances is to choose class RC2 or higher when retrofitting windows and doors. This resistance class is met by the certified scheffinger products.

Where can I fit EM3 ?

You can fit EM3 to wooden windows, metal / aluminium windows and to plastic windows with metallic reinforcement. In case of plastic windows without metallic reinforcement, you should get in touch with our service hotline before installing.

What do I need to fit the EM3 ?

You only need a battery-powered screwdriver. The packaging contains the individual parts for mounting including detailed installation instructions. In case of metal windows, pre-drilling with a smaller drill of 4.5 mm is recommended in order to able to turn in the screw easier. If you do not want to carry out the installation yourself, please get in touch with a specialist.

How many safety devices do I need in order to protect a window or a door ?

Here we would like to refer to the recommendation of the DIN standard and of the police, which recommends to provide all-round protection of windows and doors. A retrofit product should be fitted at every meter of the window or door height on either side. At least one retrofit product has to be lockable on the fastening side (handle side). In this case we recommend our patented EM3 two-hand lock. If you send us a mobile phone photo of your windows and doors, we will give you a quick and uncomplicated assessment of how many safety devices are sensible.

What should I do first – install an alarm system or a mechanical safety device ?

The police always recommends the installation of mechanical safety devices as a first step. The alarm system is to be considered as an additional protection.

Do I have to bear the costs completely by myself ?

No, you need not. You can apply for a subsidy from Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Since 21st March 2017, the installation of a burglary-resistant measure is subsidised as from and investment sum of EUR 500 already – and thus is interesting for tenants as well now. Please note that the application has to be made before the professional installation. You can submit the application online as well at the KfW subsidy gateway.
